My hair can’t cope with the constantly changing weather – how can I prevent frizz and keep my hair looking its best both in the heat and rain?

AntoinetteThe British weather can wreak havoc with hair. Harsh biting winds whip it into a tangle causing breakage and split ends, while central heating draws moisture from the hair and scalp, which causes static. Rain is absorbed into the hair causing frizz, while UV rays strip colour. Choose moisturising shampoos and conditioners that contain emollients to replenish moisture levels and add shine and smoothness. Get the most from the conditioner by blotting hair to remove excess moisture before applying, then comb through and leave for three to five minutes so the ingredients can penetrate the hair shaft. Comb through with a wide tooth comb before rinsing. Before styling use a style prep product. These are designed to add moisture and seal the cuticle, taming frizz and smoothing hair. Try Aveda Be Curly Style-Prep or Pure Abundance Style-Prep. This type of product can also be used between shampoos to revitalise the hair. Finally, serums are great weather protectors as they form a microscopic barrier along the hair shaft sealing the cuticle and preventing moisture being absorbed. Avoid using sticky hairsprays and gels, which in inclement conditions can cause tangling.
